We believe there is a need for a school for students who require positive reinforcement and more one-to-one interaction to thrive, to overcome challenges, to course-correct, and to get on a path of continued success. Our families are often driven by the belief that their child has gifts at risk of not being noticed or cultivated in school. They are looking for folks who have the time to get to know their children and become significant allies during their adolescent journeys.

Admissions Process

Our admissions process goes on all year. Admissions decisions are made on a rolling basis after getting to know families and students over the course of multiple conversations. We have no target population but have decades of experience helping kids with a variety of learning, emotional, and socio-economic challenges.

1. Contact the School

Call us at 202-726-0740, ext. 2, email us at [email protected], or fill out this form to reach a member of our admissions team. We will be back in touch within 48 hours to learn more about your student, send you materials about our program, and schedule a parent interview. Our school leaders are also happy to speak with you over the phone to answer questions you may have before deciding to come in.

2. Parent Interview

The best way for families to learn more about our program is to come in and talk to us. We’re happy to set up an initial parent interview, a 60-90 minute individual conversation with our Head of School, Ron McClain. Everyone leaves these conversations with more information about Parkmont as well as the larger educational community in which we’re all operating. You can help us by sending us any recent psychoeducational testing ahead of your interview. It’s not uncommon for us to have second and third conversations with prospective families down the road.

3. Submit Application

Parents will be emailed and mailed an application folder. We ask that you send us the completed application and a $75 non-refundable application fee (waived for Opportunity Scholarship participants) at or before the student visit. We also request a transcript and two letters of recommendation.

All of our Admissions forms can be found here!

You can pay the $75 non-refundable application fee via paypal “Pay Now” button below, or may mail a check to 4842 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20011.

4. Student Visit

After the Parent Interview, we invite parents to schedule a school visit for their child, during which the student will visit classes and meet with Ron. Appointments are best scheduled during the academic year, September through June, although we can accommodate families over the summer.

Admissions Decisions:

Parkmont does not have an application deadline. It is advisable, however, to submit applications by March for September admissions, as the number of spaces is limited. Students may apply to enter during the current school year if space is available.

When considering an application, the admissions team assesses whether Parkmont is capable of supporting a student’s academic success. A student’s previous academic record is of less importance than his or her willingness to take an active part in Parkmont’s program.

Statement of Non-Discrimination

Parkmont admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex or gender, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of our educational policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
